Coco Ma is a Canadian-born classical pianist and author. Began piano lessons at the age of five, making her Toronto Symphony Orchestra debut at the age of fourteen. Yale University ‘25 | Juilliard Alumni

 

Since 2009, Canadian pianist Coco Ma has performed in concert halls around the globe including Carnegie Hall, Roy Thomson Hall, Koerner Hall, and the Zhuhai CPAA Grand Theatre, winning top prizes at the 2009 and 2012 Canadian Music Competition, the 2014 Canadian Chopin Competition, the 2015 Aarhus International Piano Competition, and the 2015 Mozart International Competition, among others. Besides performing on numerous occasions with orchestras such as the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the Salzburg Chamber Soloists, Ma has worked alongside musicians including Emanuel Ax, Lang Lang, Maestro Peter Oundjian, Maestro Ludovic Morlot, Maestro Long Yu, and Chilly Gonzales.

 

In 2013, Ma was chosen to attend the first Lang Lang International Music Foundation Camp in Munich, Germany. Following her selection and ambassadorship, she was chosen as one of the Canadian Broadcast Corporation’s Top 30 Young Classical Musicians to Watch in 2014.

 

An avid chamber musician, Ma has performed in The Lincoln Center’s annual ChamberFest and has made multiple radio appearances on stations such as Buffalo WNED Classical 94.5 with her various groups. As a soloist, she has been featured on CBC TV, National Public Radio’s From The Top program, The Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail, and Walrus Magazine.

 

Ma currently studies with Boris Slutsky at Yale School of Music. Prior to her acceptance, she attended The Juilliard School in New York City under the tutelage of Dr. Yoheved Kaplinsky. Her other mentors have included many internationally distinguished artists such as Emanuel Ax, Dang Thai Son, Robert McDonald, Jon Kimura Parker, Ilya Itin, and Lang Lang.
